Valonia D'Souza Shines at Diocese-Level Elocution Competition

Vittal, January 19, 2025 – The Diocese-level Elocution Competition, organized by Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) – St. John Paul II Vicarate, Vittal, witnessed outstanding performances at St. Rita English Medium School, Vittal.


Among the young orators, Valonia D’Souza from Manjeshwar emerged as the winner in Category 1 (Up to 2nd Std.), securing the 1st place in a highly competitive event featuring 20 participants. Valonia, the daughter of Vijith D’Souza and Mishal D’Souza, Infant Jesus Ward, Manjeshwar, impressed the judges with her eloquence and confidence.

The event commenced at 9:30 AM, drawing enthusiastic participation from across the diocese. The competition aimed to nurture public speaking skills among young students, fostering confidence and articulation from an early age.


Valonia received blessings and best wishes from Rev. Fr. Edwin Francis Pinto, Catholic Sabha, Manjeshwar parishioners, and well-wishers, who lauded her remarkable achievement.

The competition served as a platform for young minds to express themselves and enhance their communication skills, reinforcing the importance of public speaking in early education.

Infant Jesus Ward Celebrates Joyous Feast at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Manjeshwar

Manjeshwar, January 14, 2025: The Infant Jesus Ward of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Manjeshwar, came together in a spirit of faith and festivity to celebrate its annual ward feast on January 12 and 13, 2025.

The celebration began with a solemn Eucharistic Mass on January 12 at 8:00 AM, presided over by Fr. Edwin Francis Pinto, the Parish Priest. The Mass was a moment of spiritual renewal and gratitude, bringing together parishioners to seek the blessings of  Infant Jesus.


The festivities continued on January 13 at Mr. Anil & Preethi Monteiro’s residence in Manjeshwar at 7:00 PM. The event was graced by Fr. Edwin Francis Pinto as the president, who delivered an inspiring message to the gathering.


Honoring Achievements and Community Spirit

The celebration included a special felicitation ceremony, recognizing:

  • Newly wedded couples
  • Newborn babies
  • Students who excelled academically
  • The winner of the Varado-level Elocution Competition (1st category)

Cultural Extravaganza and Fun Activities

The evening was filled with vibrant performances and engaging games, keeping the festive spirit alive.


  • Dances by children, youth, and ladies showcased immense talent.
  • A skit by Santhosh and Joshua entertained the audience.
  •  Games, conducted by Vijith Dsouza and Jayashree Monteiro, catered to different age groups, including children, men, women, married couples, and senior citizens.

The entire event was smoothly and enthusiastically anchored by Mrs. Rekha Monteiro and Mr. Philip Monteiro, who kept the audience engaged and ensured a lively atmosphere.

Winners of the various competitions were honored by the distinguished guests, adding to the excitement of the evening.

Manjeshwar Parish Shines at Kalothsav 2025

Manjeshwar Parish stood out as a beacon of talent and creativity at the much-anticipated Kalothsav 2025, securing an impressive 4th place overall among 13 participating  parishes. The event, organized by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Kasaragod Vicariate, took place on January 11 and 12 at the Kayyar Church Ground. The two-day cultural extravaganza was a thrilling celebration of artistic skills, with vibrant competitions and electrifying performances that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the region. 


Outstanding Performances by Manjeshwar Parish:

Manjeshwar Parish entered the competition with a vibrant display of talent and dedication across multiple categories. Their remarkable achievements included top positions in several key events:

  1. Fruit and Vegetable Carvings – 1st Place
    Participants: Mishal Veigus, Jeslin Dsouza, Arun Suvares, Leesha Dsouza, Roshan Martin Fernandes.


    This stunning performance took the top spot, with the intricate carvings that displayed creativity and craftsmanship.


  2. Face Painting (Elders) – 1st Place
    Artist: Akil Monteiro; Face Model: Arun Suvares.


    Akil Monteiro’s artistic talent shone through in the face painting category, earning them first place with a captivating and expressive design.

  3. Spot Photography – 2nd Place
    Participant: Joyson Monteiro.


    Joyson Monteiro’s keen eye for detail and his ability to capture moments beautifully landed him in second place.

  4. Stand-Up Comedy – 2nd Place
    Participant: Santhosh Monteiro.
    With his impeccable timing and wit, Santhosh Monteiro brought laughter and joy to the audience, earning him a well-deserved second-place finish.

  5. Reel (Best Viewers) – 2nd Place
    Manjeshwar Parish garnered 21.1k views from their parishioners, securing second place in this category and engaging the online community with their creative content.

    With their energetic and engaging performance, this dynamic duo secured third place in the short but impactful "Two Minutes Fame" category.

    A vibrant display of confidence and style from Manjeshwar's youth earned them third place in the Ramp Walk competition.

    Adline Dsouza’s colorful and imaginative face painting in the youth category earned a well-deserved third place.
  9. Duet Singing – 3rd Place
    Participants: Roshan Martin Fernandes, Frencita Monteiro.


    Their melodious voices and beautiful harmony earned them third place in the highly competitive duet singing category.

Overall Rankings:

The competition saw fierce participation, but Manjeshwar Parish's efforts were nothing short of remarkable. The overall rankings were as follows:

  • 1st Place: Narampady Parish (191.67 points)
  • 2nd Place: Vorkady Parish (166.95 points)
  • 3rd Place: Kayyar Parish (166.74 points)
  • 4th Place: Manjeshwar Parish (149.12 points)

Despite finishing fourth, Manjeshwar Parish's impressive display of talent and teamwork earned them widespread recognition and applause.
